It seems as if yesterday was Christmas with decorations galore. Now, I open my eyes to find my calendar in June, and reflect on how time quickly passes.
The phrase, "June Bride" is often heard around this time of year. But, what, other than the obvious, is a June Bride? Where does this phrase originate?
Historically, some couples married in the month of June to honor Juno, the Roman goddess of marriage. Other couples chose to wed in June to time conception, so births wouldn't interfere with harvest work. Brides in the 15th century chose to marry in June because it coincided with their "annual bath" - you read right - thus ensuring a relatively sweet-smelling honeymoon.
